Special Ministries at St. Thomas of the Valley


"Life In Abundance" Window

St. Thomas of the Valley has a range of special activities and ministries that can involve everyone from children to oldsters.

Altar Guild - Our Altar Guild maintains our altar furnishings and linens and works with our clergy and Verger to set up the church for services as required.  Membership is open to all interested people.

Acolytes - Our acolytes assist at the altar in the conduct of our worship. This program is open to both the youth (from the age of 10) and adults of our parish.

Chalice Bearers - This group is specially licensed and trained to assist in the worship service by administering the chalice during Holy Communion."  Members serve on a rotating basis.

Choir Program - The St. Thomas Choir has been singing praises to God for 13 years.  They sing a variety of music from Gregorian Chants to Jamaican style Psalm settings.  If you want to praise God with them they'll put a chair out just for you!  Choir practice is held at the church every Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m.

Community Outreach - St. Thomas is involved in a wide variety of community outreach programs which bring the love of Christ to those in need in the greater Clarkdale/Cottonwood area.

Daughters of The King - Daughters of the King is an international lay order for women in the Episcopal Church and other churches within the historic Episcopate.  By a reaffirmation of baptismal vows, it stresses a rule of life that consists of prayer, study, service, and personal evangelism, to extend the kingdom of Christ and to strengthen the spiritual life of their parish.  Membership is open to all women communicants of good standing. 

The Dinner Group - This is an informal organization consisting of groups of 6 to 8 parishioners who meet at each other's homes on a monthly basis to share a simple dinner and fellowship.  The groups change every 4 months and both singles and couples are invited to participate. It is a wonderful way to meet new friends and to get to know your parish family better.

Episcopal Church Women (ECW) - Founded in 1871, this national organization of Episcopal women, is committed to providing support to the church and to the women in the church body.  Through its standing and special projects, the ECW provides a way in which every woman in our church can perform her own personal ministry and give back to God and the church. We need your support and we want to support you!

Intercessors - This group assists in the worship service by reading  the "Prayers of the People," or other appointed prayers.  Members serve on a rotating basis.

Lectors - This group assists in the worship service by reading the lessons appointed.  Members serve on a rotating basis.

Men of St. Thomas (MOST) - This men's fellowship group provides fellowship, programs, and, fun for the men of St. Thomas.  Their programs include the Annual Chili Cook-off, pancake breakfasts, and the Oktoberfest.

Pastoral Care Team - The Pastoral Care Team consists of members who have been specially trained and commissioned to the ministry of providing care and support in life crisis situations, in support of our Priest in Charge, as well visiting the sick, the hospitalized, and shut-in members of our parish family.  Many of them are also licensed to bring Holy Communion to those who cannot regularly attend the Sunday service.

Pot-Luck Suppers - Our pot-luck suppers are celebrations of many different occasions and they are world famous for the quality and quantity of the foods offered.  No one leaves hungry!

“The Saints” Construction Helpers - This is an informal group of the men and women in our parish who help with the construction and maintenance of our parish facilities.  "We have a tool to fit your hand."

Ushers - This group assists in the worship service by greeting and assisting our worshipers, and through the ministry of hospitality.  Members serve on a rotating basis.
